High-Standard EV Asset Protection: Early Detection of Thermal Runaway

Early Detection of Thermal Runaway: High-Standard EV Asset Protection from TRON

The implementation of safety systems in electric bus fleets is a critical operational requirement, and early detection of thermal runaway is key. Thermal runaway is a chain reaction within a battery that generates extreme heat. This chain reaction is extremely difficult to stop once it has begun in an electric vehicle. Therefore, the implementation of Fire Management Solutions from PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk (TRON) not only serves to protect fleet assets from this fatal risk but, most importantly, ensures the safety of passengers and all parties within the road transportation ecosystem.

The Threat of Thermal Runaway in Electric Vehicles

The transition to green energy through the use of electric bus fleets brings new challenges in terms of safety. Lithium-ion batteries, which serve as the primary power source, are vulnerable to extreme temperatures. Without a strict monitoring system, battery anomalies can trigger fires. This is where Fire Management Solutions technology plays a central role in integrated prevention. This ecosystem relies on four main pillars of protection: Fire Protection, Dry Powder, Cabin Spray, and nitrogen protection devices.

TY Series Monitoring Module: Smart Early Warning Center

The frontline of this protection system is an IoT-based smart early warning system. TRON uses the TY Series Thermal Runaway Monitoring Module, specifically designed to monitor lithium-ion batteries in real time. This monitoring module features multi-level sensitivity and highly precise monitoring capabilities within the battery compartment.

The TY Series monitoring device is capable of performing various critical detections, including:

  • Directly detecting electrolyte leaks.
  • Detecting VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) levels.
  • Detecting CO (Carbon Monoxide) gas, temperature changes, and the presence of smoke.

All data from these monitoring sensors is directly integrated into a smart dashboard. This enables the system to detect battery temperature anomalies long before a fire breaks out. If the system detects a hazard, this monitoring module is equipped with a four-level alarm function that includes audible and visual alarms. These alerts are also accompanied by the ability to activate the fire suppression system automatically or manually.

Multi-Agent Active Defense and International

Certifications When a hazard warning is active, the system immediately deploys multi-agent active defense. This mechanism automatically activates nitrogen gas, dry powder, and water mist (Cabin Water Mist or Cabin Spray) protection to instantly contain and extinguish the fire.

The quality and reliability of this EV asset protection system have been tested and recognized globally. The system has earned international certifications, including CE and ECE R107, which are specifically designed to meet electric bus safety standards. The seamless integration of all these components ultimately provides peace of mind for transportation operators and maximum protection for the public.
