PT TKDN Tbk (TRON) Supports Public Transportation Electrification through Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) Organized by the Ministry of Transportation
Jakarta, September 16, 2025 – The Ministry of Transportation, through its Directorate General of Land Transportation, in collaboration with PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk (TRON) as a technology partner, convened a Forum Group Discussion (FGD) titled “Electrification of Public Transportation in Support of Clean Energy Initiatives.” This event, held at the Grand Mercure Kemayoran Hotel in Jakarta, gathered key stakeholders, including representatives from central and local governments, and transportation operators, to strategize on accelerating the adoption of clean energy-based public transportation across Indonesia.
The FGD’s primary objective was to establish a unified vision and a dedicated commitment to addressing the key challenges inherent in public transportation electrification. These challenges encompass regulatory frameworks, financing mechanisms, infrastructure development, and technological integration. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader efforts to achieve net-zero emissions by 2060 and enhance urban air quality.
A significant milestone of the event was the ceremonial signing of the Public Transportation Electrification Program Commitment in Support of Clean Energy Use. This symbolic act involved representatives from central and regional governments, underscoring their collective seriousness and resolve to implement environmentally sustainable public transportation solutions.
The forum was officially inaugurated by the Director of Road Transportation, represented by the Director of Road Traffic, Mr. Rudi Irawan, S.SiT, MT, who articulated the crucial role of collaboration in driving success. In his address, he emphasized that transitioning to electric public transportation is not merely a fleet replacement initiative but a comprehensive effort to establish an integrated, sustainable ecosystem bolstered by robust regulatory support. “This forum serves as a vital platform for harmonizing the vision and aligning the steps of regulators, local governments, and industry stakeholders. We are committed to advocating for policies that facilitate adoption, including technical standardization and effective incentive frameworks,” Mr. Irawan stated.
The panel discussion, adeptly moderated by Drs. Yayat Supriyatna, showcased the essential contributions of various stakeholders within the electric vehicle ecosystem. Notable speakers included Ms. Indira Darmoyono from the Indonesian Transportation Society, Ms. Rachma Nissa Fadliya, President Director of Perumda Trans Pakuan, and Ms. Wendy Waas from PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk.
From an industry standpoint, PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk (TRON), a proponent of battery swapping technology, articulated its readiness and innovative solutions to address market needs. “We are poised to tackle the challenges of electrification through comprehensive offerings, including a public transportation fleet based on battery swapping and a Battery as a Service (BaaS) model,” remarked David Santoso, President Director of PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk. “This solution effectively addresses the hurdles associated with high initial investment costs, extensive charging times, and range limitations. Furthermore, we are set to launch electric taxis and public transportation solutions utilizing battery swap technology, commencing with collaborations with the Bogor City Government and other local administrations. This marks our tangible commitment to fostering modern and reliable public transportation services.”
Additionally, a representative from Indonesia Battery Corporation (IBC) participated in the discussion, highlighting the necessity of collaboration across various sectors to cultivate an electric vehicle ecosystem for public transport. Adhietya Saputra, Head of the Business and Project Development Division at IBC, noted, “The battery is a crucial component of electric vehicles. However, developing this ecosystem necessitates collaboration among battery manufacturers, EV producers, fleet operators, battery-as-a-service providers, and clean energy suppliers. Government support is pivotal in formulating a clear roadmap, providing incentives to stakeholders, and standardizing quality and safety protocols.”
The forum was attended by various officials from central and local governments, including Drs. H. Khoirudin, M.Si., Chairman of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Mayor of Bogor Dedie A. Rachim, and representatives from transportation agencies across DKI Jakarta, Bogor, Surakarta, Banyumas, and Palembang, as well as relevant transportation operators. The outcomes of this FGD are anticipated to lay the groundwork for a more concrete and actionable roadmap, ensuring a smooth transition toward a more sustainable public transportation framework that meets established targets and fosters environmental responsibility.
