Public street lighting (PJU) is one of the important infrastructures for a city. Apart from its function to illuminate roads and public spaces at night for the comfort and safety of citizens, Smart PJU also plays a role in creating aesthetics and a beautiful city atmosphere. However, conventional PJUs are often inefficient in the use of electrical energy and require high operational and maintenance costs.
In this era of digital transformation, smart street lighting technology offers a solution to overcome these problems. Smart street lighting combines energy-efficient LED lights with intelligent control systems and sensors that allow street lighting to be operated adaptively as needed.
PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk (TKDN), as a leading technology solution provider in Indonesia, presents Smart PJU products that can provide many benefits for city governments and their citizens. The following are some of the main advantages of TKDN’s Smart PJU:

By using energy-efficient LED lights and an adaptive lighting control system, TKDN’s Smart PJU can save up to 80% of electricity consumption compared to conventional PJUs. The lights will automatically adjust the brightness level according to environmental and traffic conditions.
For example, when the road is quiet in the middle of the night, the lights can be dimmed to 60-90% to save energy. When a vehicle or pedestrian passes by, the motion sensor will detect and increase the brightness of the lights. Thus, lighting is maintained when needed while maximizing energy savings.
In addition to saving energy, Smart PJU can also reduce operational and maintenance costs by up to 50%. The system will proactively provide notifications in the event of lamp failure, so that it can be addressed immediately.
LED lights also have a much longer lifespan than conventional lights. With timely maintenance and minimal disruption, the service life of PJU infrastructure will be longer and reduce replacement costs.
Good street lighting is essential for creating a safe and comfortable environment for road users. Smart PJU can adjust lighting levels as needed at certain times and locations.
At intersections or accident-prone areas, for example, lights can be set brighter. The system can also be integrated with sensors and surveillance cameras for crime detection or emergency situations, thus improving public safety.
Smart streetlights are part of the broader smart city ecosystem. Smart street lights can be used as hubs for various applications such as air quality sensors, digital information displays, public WiFi, and electric vehicle charging stations.
Data collected from sensors can also be utilized for traffic analysis and better urban planning. With its high energy efficiency, Smart PJU contributes to carbon emission reduction efforts and supports sustainability goals.
Through a centralized monitoring dashboard, operators can control and monitor the performance of the entire PJU fleet in real-time. If there is a problematic light, the system will automatically send an alert for quick corrective action.
Various parameters such as energy consumption, operation status, and maintenance schedule can be monitored easily. This enables more efficient, transparent and data-driven management of PJU assets, thereby improving public service accountability.
Smart street lighting offers many benefits over conventional street lighting. Starting from energy efficiency, reducing costs, increasing safety, to supporting the development of sustainable smart cities.
As a technology company, PT Teknologi Karya Digital Nusa Tbk (TKDN) presents Smart PJU solutions that can help city governments and related stakeholders in managing street lighting infrastructure more intelligently, efficiently, and beneficially for citizens.
